Alrighty, back with another one of those block rockin’ beats to quote those Englishmen, the Chemical Brothers.

Last time we looked at offset tracking in Shake, a relatively straightforward and easy affair . . . not so in After Effects as it turns out. Hopefully this will help you out. Thanks to my co-worker Dan Bryant for showing me this method which I then finally found somewhere else on the net with Carl Larsen’s video over at Creative Cow. If you are an After Effects user and aren’t checking Creative cow, then shame on you!

Great tut! Yes Creative Cow and Video Copilot will give you everything and beyond of what you need to know about After effects.

Agreed . . . and there is no way I am going to compete with them! ;) As I said though, this basic technique was remarkably hard to come by on the web and the Adobe help for AE is pretty pathetic when it comes to examples.

  3. I know it’s a little late, but I just got some time to watch these videos. Glad you are learning After Effects, it’s a handy tool. You are right though, some things are harder in AE than with say, Shake or Nuke. But conversely, somethings are easier in AE than in other compositing packages. Knowing both will give you the best of both worlds.

I’m about to seriously start learning Nuke, but right now I just don’t like nodes. Maybe my attitude will change as I gain more experience with them.

Go with the nodes man, you know you want to ;p
